For decades, the colored contact lens market has often ignored the specific needs and skin tones of Black women.

The available shades did not always blend harmoniously with dark eyes, leaving a gap in the range of inclusive beauty products.
It is in this spirit of representation and empowerment that the visionary entrepreneur Mafalda broke down barriers by launching her own color range.

Mafalda drew on her personal experience and expertise to design the very first colored contact lenses specifically formulated for the dark eyes of Black women.

What hygiene measures should be followed?

Wearing colored contact lenses is a great way to change your look, but since they are medical devices in direct contact with your eyes, hygiene must be impeccable.

Here are the 3 essential hygiene measures to follow:


1. Thorough handwashing
This is the golden rule. Before touching your lenses (to put them in or take them out), you absolutely must wash your hands.
* Use a mild soap (without perfume or oil, as this can make the lens greasy).
* Dry your hands with a clean, lint-free towel. Small fabric fibers on the lens can cause very unpleasant irritation.

2. Exclusive cleaning with a suitable solution
Never let your lenses come into contact with water (tap water, mineral water or saliva).
* Only use a multi-purpose solution recommended by your optician to rinse and store your contact lenses. Tap water contains bacteria and amoebas that can cause serious eye infections.
* Replace the product in your case after each use. Never top up ("top-off") by adding new product on top of old.

3. Maintenance and replacement of the case
It is often forgotten, but the case is a breeding ground for bacteria if it is not properly maintained.
* After putting in your lenses, empty the case, rinse it with sterile solution and let it air dry, face down, on a clean tissue.
* Change the case regularly (ideally every month, or with each new bottle of product) to avoid the formation of bacterial biofilm.
